Internships can be a valuable experience for students seeking exposure to a range of professional cultures and experiences. However, Columbia College, the School of General Studies, and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science—as at our peer institutions nationally—do not offer registration credit (R credit) on the academic transcript for internships. Companies are expected to appropriately compensate students for work performed during an internship. CCE has posted some helpful guidelines for employers regarding unpaid internships here.
Support will be maintained for student participation in internships for which students are properly compensated (when required), and letters of support for internships will be provided upon request.
